What knife do you slip into your pocket or purse each and every day?
I carry a Victorinox brand Swiss Army knife of one kind or another. A Ranger or Farmer mostly. I love the Victorinox saw! I also carry a Leatherman Charge XTi, especially on weekends for "honey-dos."

Re: What is your EDC
Fri, October 21, 2005 - 1:35 PMMy everyday carry's are pretty much just for light utility and (gods forbid I need it) defense.
Usually I carry a Spyderco Blue Almite Walker and an Emerson La Griffe. If I'm doing something that requres something bigger than the Walker I'll switch it out for either my Spyderco ATR or Benchmade AFCK, depending. -

Re: What is your EDC
Tue, November 8, 2005 - 2:52 AMNothing fancy, really. Just a single blade lockback with a frostwood and silvertone handle. (I keep plenty of other knives and tools I might need in my truck. )
For Ren. Faire, I usually have several small knives on me. My main knife for that though, is a small Pakistani dagger, that I keep decently sharp. (I think it's a 3" blade. ) I tend to mostly use it for food, but I do sometimes use it for cutting other things.
I know, boring...

Re: What is your EDC
Tue, November 8, 2005 - 12:08 PMAt this moment i actually seldom carry a knife with me. The reason for that is; the legislation on knifecarry has dramaticly changed here over the course of just a few years. Due to all kinds of upheavel in society the lawmakers and those that check if we are abiding have become more strict. The chance that i loose a very good and expensive knife has become very real since they started doing pre-emptive searches of members of the public. That means when the situation arises they stop and search any and everybody in a certain area. As of yet i haven't been in such a situation but.......
I used to carry a Al Mar foldingknife from the gunstock series(what happened to this fantastic brand of knives?) and after that i carried a neck-knife from Cold Steel but that was totally unsatisfactory. Then i tried for a very short while the Kasper but a fixed blade knife is not a good option when you are in the city.
So as a matter of fact i am looking!! Any suggestions from the people on this tribe are more then wellcome.
Thanks!!
Take care,stay well.

The Al Mar Company is still going strong and producing some top notch knives. As a matter of fact I sould be recieving an Ultralight Falcon in a few days. www.almarknives.com/
You might also check out Fallkniven for some fine blades. The small, but mighty U2 is fast becoming a favorite of mine. www.fallkniven.com/

Re: What is your EDC
Fri, November 11, 2005 - 7:44 AMHi Todd, i checked the weblinks you gave and i must say that compared to their cataloque 10 to 15 years back it's not ....well the same anymore. Undoubtly the quality will be the same but the actual appearence of the knives is very different. And of course things do change and expecting it not to is a bit childish. But i am a bit old fashioned and i like a wooden handle on a knife. So there you go....personal preferences. The one that i like is the nomad because of shape of the blade and the compactness of it. That's a good candidate.
Fallkniven is another good knife company but i haven't considered their knives to be an option. I certainly will look into that.
Thanks for your info and if you the whereabouts of old school Al Mar knives and the owners are willing to depart with them i'll be most interested.
Enjoy the weekend.

Re: What is your EDC
Sun, November 13, 2005 - 1:36 PMI usually carry a lock-back Case knife that has 'Craftsman' on the blade...easily explainable as a work knife, and legal size for Oregon, but slightly modified for easy one-hand opening. I've carried it for years, and it's an old friend.

Personally, I'm a fan of the Benchmade Axis lock knives. And you can't beat Swiss Army knives and Leatherman multi-tools for everyday utility...

Re: What is your EDC
Sun, November 13, 2005 - 5:09 PMwell actually i carry a cheap ass wont hold an edge for crap blade because i am not into using up my good blades.it is a fairly nice setup it is all aluminum handle and a decent patern on the blade i am actually thinking of making a new blade of beter quality steel something that will hold a decent edge but i must admit i like the stamp patern on this one so i may just reheat treat this one and maybe add some additional carbon see if it will hold up. (prolly not but i am going to try.) anyone know what temp i should add the carbon at.???

Sun, May 28, 2006 - 10:56 PMOpinel. No substitute. Opinel is the ONLY exeption to the "no tang = no knife" rule. I carry a leatherman as well, but never use their crappy blade. -

Re: What is your EDC
Mon, May 29, 2006 - 4:49 PMAs a carpenter 90% of my blade cuts are made with a Stanley fat max retractable utility knife ( I prefer the bimetal Lenox disposable blades) But that is not really a knife. I used to carry one of those swedish MORA workman knives with the red wood handle and the plastic sheath. You find different versions of them on tradesmen throughout europe.
I'd say my utility knife is almost indespensible for the type of work I do. I use it for everything, cutting the tips of caulk tubes, scraping paint off sticky windows, back beveling miter cuts on casing trim opening packages and gouging out stubborn spinters from my fingers.. and so mch more. It is a do all tool.
I keep a Opinel in my lunch box for food type stuff but you gotta wipe that blade fast because it tarnishes imediately.
As for real knives EDC I like the Gerber E-Z out with a half serrated edge. I got a set that has a mini one 2" and a regular 3". Both have clips so I can clip them to the chest pocket on overalls. They're great for cutiing rope or anything too big for my utility knife. -

Re: What is your EDC
Mon, June 26, 2006 - 9:09 PMI usually just carry a stainless steel folding buck-knife with a locking blade. Sometimes I also carry a leatherman, as well as a swiss-army style knife. I also carry around a Ryobi Craft knife (Boxcutters, Xacto knife) in a handy belt sheath.

Re: What is your EDC
Thu, July 20, 2006 - 3:30 PMSpyderco Native with half-serrated edge and some sort of Leatherman. I've carried at one point or another various Spyderco (Endura, Delica, Viele), Benchmade (licenced by Spyderco, a butterfly and a Mel Pardue auto), a Gerber BMF, and numerous El-Cheapos. I have an affinity for the Spyderco blade hole, it just seems natrual for fast thumb opening.

Re: What is your EDC
Sun, August 6, 2006 - 10:09 PMEmerson CQC 6 original "shorty". I think later versions were 3/4 of an inch longer. I carry horizontal appendex and it has been missed frequently by law enforcement/security searches. They just dont look there.

Re: What is your EDC
Wed, August 9, 2006 - 2:09 PMI usually carry one of two. My venerable Swiss Army Tinkerer, or a custom made primitive forge neck knife, by Joe Schilling of Germantown MD. The neck knive is carried in a neck sheath which looks remarkably like a prayer/medicine pouch.

Re: What is your EDC
Sat, September 9, 2006 - 2:45 PMSomehow I knew you'd be in this tribe.
There are many "non-standard" places to carry/conceal that will be missed by your typical bouncer frisk or even lazy cop frisk. I've gotten large fixed-blades past concert security by snugging the blade in the arm of my jacket next to my bicep or forearm. Neck knives are usually missed if the searcher doesn't see a cord stiking out around your collar. Same goes for a knife suspended between your shoulder blades.
A black horozontal sheath on a black belt will frequently be missed in low light if the searcher only does a visual inspection, even if the sheath is a different material than the belt. And if you are wearing a lot of black (hah!) it's easier to hide things. -

Re: What is your EDC
Sat, September 16, 2006 - 2:33 PMHiding a knife to sneak it into a concert or past a bouncer makes it a 'concealed weapon' though. Unless it remains hidden all the time, you'll get into serious legal trouble. This is true even if you did 'have' to use it in the middle of a concert or nightclub. In the unlikely event that someone else pulls a knife they also snuck past security on you, and your knife is hidden well enough to avoid detection by the bouncers...yet accessible enough to draw quickly, my guess is that you would both be charged for carrying concealed weapons, attempted murder, etc. Saying that the other guy 'started it' won't help you either, since the other guy will be telling the cops the same thing. Not to mention the fact that even psychos don't generally pull knives on people, for no reason.
If someone pulled a knife on me in a public place, I would either run away if I could...or use a chair, table, or something else to sheild me while I yelled 'He has a knife! Someone call the Police/ Security!' as loudly as I could. As far as 'sneaking' weapons past bouncers or cops goes...I would suggest a cane or a walking stick. It has the same reach as a sword, and cannot be taken away from you even in a Police station, jail, airport, or court of law.
www.canemasters.com
It's legal to carry a knife of any length in Canada, even for self-defence. However, if the Police ever ask you why you carry a knife, it is generally not a good idea to answer that you use if for self-defence. The primary purpose of a knife is that of a tool, not a murder weapon. The knife has to be carried openly, otherwise it is a) considered a concealed weapon and b) too inaccessible to access when needed for self-defence.
One woman carries a knife and claims that she uses it because she has a phobia about being burned to death in her car while trapped by her seatbelt. Thus, in her mind it is not a weapon, but a tool to cut through seatbelts with.

Mon, October 30, 2006 - 2:24 PMSpyderco Delica 2 serrated. Opens in a snap.. cuts anything that needs to be cut, and can pull out a staple with the best of em. See the clip in my pocket Officer? that means it is not concealed.
